Dear Friend and Fellow American,

Be prepared to save and celebrate your family history. Be prepared for National Family Heritage and Heirloom month.

My proposal is to place pictures of "before" and "after" restored heirlooms/keepsakes on postage stamps. By doing so, it will highlight their importance and encourage families to protect and /or restore their heirlooms, allowing them to hold on to the memories and traditions imbued in these objects while passing them along to the next generation for special occasions such as graduations and weddings. My primary purpose is creating the opportunity for the month of June (graduations and weddings) to be designated National Family Heritage and Heirloom month.

My name is John Rickford, "Rick", and my company is called Poor Richard's Restoration. I have been in private practice as a preservationist and curator for over 30 years. I am really excited about this plan and hope you too will feel the same way. I believe it will be worth the effort! I would be most grateful to speak with you, or to meet at your office or my studio if you so desire.

The value of placing these pictures on stamps would be twofold. One, to celebrate our family heritage, our treasures and our traditions. Two, to realize a source of funding (similar to the stamps supporting Breast Cancer Research), which could be directed to the maintenance and restoration projects on monuments, historic sites and objects benefiting the National Trust and the Smithsonian Institute. No taxes, just stamps and stories to appreciate.

I am enclosing some information about my studio and myself. You will find more complete coverage on my Website www.rickford.com. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

J. Rickford
